US Organic Sales Up 17% in 2008

The Organic Trade Association in the United States has released a report showing that U.S. sales of organic products (food and non-food) reached $24.6 billion by the end of 2008.

This is an impressive 17.1% increase over 2007 sales, despite the economic crisis.

North America is the second largest destination market for New Zealand's organic exports, and this growth shows how there are still great opportunities for organic producers - even as other parts of the economy are finding it tough.  It also shows how consumer demand is evolving - shoppers are prioritising values like sustainability, as well as seeking value for money.

A "good news" start to the day.
